Impact of Organic and Inorganic Sources of Nutrients on Growth, Yield Attributes and Yield of Bottle gourd (Lagenaria siceraria (Mol.) Standl.) in Bihar
Abstract
Abstract: A field experiment was conducted at Nalanda College of Horticulture, Noorsarai, Nalanda during summer 2017 to assess the effect of complementary and sole applications of organic and inorganic fertilizers on the growth and yield of bottle gourd under okra-cabbage-bottle gourd crop sequence. The experiment consists of seven treatments viz.,T1-Chemical fertilizers (120 Kg N: 60 Kg P2O5 and 40 Kg K2O); T2-50%NPK through inorganic fertilizer+50%N through FYM; T3-50% N through FYM+50% N through VC; T4-1/3 of N through FYM + VC + Neemcake; T5-50% N through FYM + PSB + Azotobactor; T6-T3+PSB + Azotobactor and T7-T4+PSB + Azotobactor. These seven treatments were replicated thrice in Randomized Block Design. Results revealed that T2-50%NPK through inorganic fertilizer+50%N through FYM recorded 238.9 q ha-1 fruit yield, which was statistically at par with rest of the fertilizer sources, except T5 ( 173.4 q ha-1). Although, T1-RDF recorded maximum (247 q ha-1). Similarly, maximum vine length (57.6 cm) was recorded in T1-RDF followed by T2-50%NPK through fertilizer+50%N through FYM, T6 and T3 while, the smallest vine was found in T5 (47.8 cm) at 30 DAS. Similar trend in vine length were also observed at 60 and 90 DAS. Number of branches didn't differed significantly at 30 DAS but as the plant growth increased the number of branches recorded significantly at 60 and 90 DAS. T6 recorded significantly highest number of branches (4.7) over T1-RDF (3.7), T2, (3.3) T4 (3.3) and T5 (3.0) at 90 DAS. Among organic treatments highest available N (262.25 kg ha-1) was observed in T3, while highest available P (17.95 kg ha-1) and K (154.50 kg ha-1) was found in T6 and lowest fertility level were observed in T5. In T2 available N (265.35 kg ha-1), P (17.25 kg ha-1) and K (152.2 kg ha-1) found which was statistically at par with recommended dose of fertilizer (271.24, 17.38 and 165.25 kg ha-1) in terms of N P and K respectively. On the basis of result obtained obtained T6-T3+biofertilizer can be adapted as sustainable crop production.
